That traffic jam due to an accident on Sheikh Zayed Road or that travel back from Sharjah during the rush hour via Mohammed Bin Zayed Road isn’t so much of a bother if you’re lounging on the backseat of a luxury catching up on the next episode of ‘Game Of Thrones’. Renting a car with a driver in Dubai is definitely a much required service.
The comfort and convenience of being driven around on the UAE roads. No need to keep a constant eye on Google Maps and navigating the winding roads across the emirates. The driver picking you up from your doorstep – be it the hotel or airport. Driving you around to where you desire and at the end of your itinerary, drop you where you wish to alight.
But “rent a car with driver” is illegal
Yes, getting a driver even with additional charges from a car rental company is illegal in the UAE. Unless the said car rent company also operates as a “tours & travels company” or a “limousine service company”.
Note: In the UAE, the term “limousine” is vague. You might think a limousine means a stretch limo you hire on an hourly. But here, chauffeured luxury cars: the likes of BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc. are regarded as limousines. And only limousines can be officially provided with a driver (aka chauffeur).

Tours & Travels Co.
Hiring a driver with a car (or a car with a driver) is possible even for economy cars but through a Tours and Travels companies registered in the UAE. However, the charges for such a service are substantial almost as much as limousine service companies. Be wary and always check multiple quotes before booking.
Why?
We believe the reason behind restricting the car + driver service only to limousine service and tours & travel agencies would be to protect the interests of the Dubai Taxi Corporation / RTA Bus and Metro services. And they should… The Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) provides an exceptional service to everyone in the city. Convenient, quick and reachable. The RTA bus and metro are perhaps the best thing that happened to the city of Dubai especially for the working class and budget travelers. They connect the length of the city exceptionally well.
Mashaweer Service by Dubai Government
Not many know but Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC), in association with Dubai RTA, has started a driver service that you can get and at very nominal rates too.
Mashaweer means ‘going to some place for pleasure’ in Arabic. Most people travel to Dubai for pleasure including the many who do for business but end up having a pleasurable business trip. The only condition of Mashweer service is “that the interested individual or corporate customer has to provide a vehicle, with comprehensive insurance and fuel.”

Mission of Dubai Taxi Corporation as defined on their website
“DTC is seeking to curb negative practices spotted in the community. Some individuals and companies tend to hire drivers. They are in breach of the applicable legislations related to residency and others. Moreover, it helps reserve the rights of all parties through contracts made, and deliver top quality service at competitive rates in flexible timeline and with multiple options,” said the Director of DTC Fleet Operations in a final comment.
Hours based car rental is legal for a normal rent a car in dubai?
There wouldn’t be a legal issue on that. As limousines and chauffeured riven luxury cars are rented out on an hourly basis.

Please let me know it’s legal or not
If not what I can do

Hi Sunil, if you’ve rented from anywhere in the UAE, you can travel across any of the seven emirates. But to be sure, have a word with your car rental company.
Abu Dhabi and Dubai are a 150 km apart so just consider your total allowed mileage limit and make sure what salik (toll) charges you will be levied.

I do not understand why rent a car with a driver, because it’s much more interesting to drive yourself, to get an interesting experience. I went tree times in Dubai, we liked hertz and europcar, they have normal price and good condition.
Which cars are available with driver in Dubai? Legally.
There’s a range of cars available legally in the UAE, Chris. Starting from a Lexus ES 350 sedan to a Mercedes Sprinter Van for 20 passengers.
Hi, Chris! You can rent sedans, suvs, vans with the driver. All cars less then 3 years old. BMW7, Audi A6, Mercedes S-class and other. It all depends on how much money you have. Also all drivers speak several languages. It’s very conveniently.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I really appreciate your efforts and I am waiting for your next write ups thank you once again.
