Requirements to rent a car 

 

To be eligible to rent a car in Muscat, you have to be 21 years of age. However, you might have to be 25 years of age to be able to rent cars from certain car rental agencies. The documents you require to rent a car are your Passport, Driver’s license (which you’ve had for a year at least) and an International Driving Permit (IDP). You also need to have these documents on you while driving in the city. 

 

Inclusions in your rental car

 

Your rental car will have a properly functioning air conditioning, air bags and a GPS navigation system. Baby seats are provided with the car when requested. Your car rental plan does not include salik (toll) charges. It does not include fuel charges as well and most agencies require their cars to be returned with the same amount of fuel the car had before the rental period. 

 

Rules and Regulations for Driving 

 

  • Driving in Muscat is done one the right side of the roads.
  • Speed limits are clearly indicated by signane on the roads. However, they do not exceed 120 km/hr. 
  • Muscat has a zero-tolerance policy for driving under the influence of alcohol.
  • Incase of accidents, leave your car where it is and reach out to the Police on 999. 
  • Using your cellphone is strictly prohibited while driving a car in Muscat.
